GIRLS ENTER WORLD OF TECHNOLOGY

GIRLS from a host of local schools have been given a fun-filled introduction into the world of technology. Eighty-six pupils took part in the series of hands-on taster activities at Sellafield.

Students from St Joseph’s School in Workington, Netherhall School in Maryport and Keswick School were involved in the girls’ engineering day. The year eight pupils had to build a robotic duck, design a windmill and fire a rocket from a pressure launcher.

Those from St Joseph’s were able to tick off a number of aspects of their e-passports, including ‘working with others, ‘creativity’ and ‘communication skills’.

And recently year five and six pupils from Aspatria’s Richmond Hill School and All Saints’ School in Cockermouth tried their hand at half-a-day of engineering-related activities.

The events were organised by Cumbria Stem Centre and supported by ambassadors from a host of organisations.
