Changing Face of Station Street Exhibition
Last updated at 22:30, Tuesday, 30 June 2009
Our Summer Exhibition at the Kirkgate Centre starts on Monday, 27th July and will be open every day until Sunday, 23rd August. This year's exhibition looks at The Changing Face of Station Street. Station Street was created with the coming of the railway and one building was demolished on Main Street to make the necessary opening that is now Station Street. Our exhibition looks at the development of Station Street and the changing use of many of the shops. Research also covers Station Road and Cockermouth Railway Station. Admission to the exhibition is free and opening hours are 10 - 4 daily. For further information you can email us on: museumgroup@hotmail.com
Preserving Cockermouth's history
The Cockermouth Museum Group (until recently we were called the Kirkgate Centre Museum Group) is actively researching and recording all aspects of Cockermouth's rich history. We are collecting donated artefacts, all kinds of ephemera and photographs, which are catalogued and stored. Many are used in our exhibitions at the Kirkgate Centre. We can also copy photographs and return originals where preferred. Please think twice before throwing away any items relating to Cockermouth's past however insignificant they may appear - they may just provide the piece of the jigsaw we are looking for! We can be contacted via the Kirkgate Centre or by email: museumgroup@hotmail.com
