MARYPORT Junior School pupil Shaun Kurzyk, nine, designed a banner which will be displayed at the school gates to remind parents about bad driving and parking.
Shaun was the winner of a competition run by police at seven schools in the area to improve child safety at school opening and closing times.
Maryport PCSO Hannah Donaughee said the behaviour of motorists outside schools had become a concern.
She invited children in infant and junior schools in Maryport, Flimby, Dearham, Crosby and Oughterside to design banners encouraging drivers not to park in hazardous areas or where children cross the road.
Cubby’s Sign Studio in Carlisle offered to make the winning sign into a full-sized banner to be hung on the school gates, and Maryport mayor Peter Cross judged the designs.
Shaun’s banner will go up on the school’s gates and other schools have expressed an interest in getting their own banners made.
PCSO Donaughee said she hoped that the banners, made by the children, would encourage motorists to remember their responsibilities outside school gates.
